Talent Vogue last night was pretty nice, way better than last years performance actually. It ended off really well! Haha.Gym Performance today wasn't that bad, wasn't that awesome either. But not bad la [: Was super cute!!
Mmmm, Halloween's here. I don't celebrate. I love babies. Cats aren't that bad.
I think architecture's cool. I could be an architect! Fairytales are stories that are made up by people, they're stuff that can't ever be real. But buildings are real, you can make design them in any way you want to, as long as it's feasible, & you just need to make it come true! It's realistic stuff.
Turn left to give up. Turn right to continue. Roll the dice to skip a turn.
ta's! Byebye

I used to think of what we could do. What I would wear. What I would say. Where we'd go. I used to what things at their best. It's like fitting your fist into a the cookie jar. If you take all the cookies, you'll always be stuck.

Water flows. Dams block the flow. Dams are man-made structures. They're not part of nature.

I don't know what you're thinking. Don't know what I'm doing. Don't know where we're going. So let's make it stop.

So that's the end of us 7:32 PM
I had this picture in my head. It was a picture of me floating on this stream of water, allowing it's currents to carry me. & it didn't matter to me where this current went. It wasn't a hot day. It was windy, cloudy, peaceful, serene. I was with myself & I felt such calmness. The air was sweet. I was happy. The stream stretched out into different routes & I was afraid one of which would lead me to an unpleasant place. & I wanted to stop, I wanted to analyse each route & know what's at the end. I went against the current, trying to decide. Then I realised that there's really no use in that. The current's like life. I need to learn how to flow with life & stop always trying to decide on things that I'm not sure of myself. I need to stop holding on to every aspect of my life to tightly, trying to take control of it, because there's always going to be other people involved. & I'm going to be constantly hurting the people around me. & I'm done with that. I can't force life to have a pleasant ending, I can only live it.

This is a MUST post.
Today was fun. For the first time ever, I didn't sweat like omgzz in the East. The East is an unusual place that constantly makes em feel uneasy. But it is rather lovely. I'd like to buy a house in the East next time. A quiet, lovely house with a big dog of my own.
I WANNA LIVE IN BALI BESIDE A POND OF FISHES, WITH MY BIG DOG! WITH NICE LIGHT CURTAINS REACHING DOWN TO THE FLOORS! OHMYGOSH!
& i love the straw, btw! I'm using it now [: to drink milk!
Next up, MOVIEW MARATHON ONE DAY!

Map Reading Steps: 1. Pattern - Nucleated/ Linear/ Dispersed 2. Type - Urban/ Rural + Town/ City 3. Location Relief - Height (<200>600 = High) - Gradient (Steep/ Gentle) - Main Functions (Mountainous/ Conical, Hills/Knolls, Ridges, Valleys) 4. Drainage (Domestic & Commercial Function) - Rivers (Name), Tributaries, Meanders, Waterfall 5. Man-made Features & Functions - Industrial, Agricultural, Commercial & Transportation
Note: - Read bottom left of square - EASTING followed by NORTHING
Dominant Functions: 1. Market Town - Agricultural/ Farming areas 2. Mining Town - Self-explanatory 3. Industrial Town - raw products --> manufactured goods 4. Port - Rivers/ Coasts 5. Route Center - Strategic junction of natural & man-made transport points 6. Service Center - Recreational, educational, shopping, healthcare 7. Cultural & Religious Settlement - Rich historical background 8. Administrative Center - Regional center/ Capital city 9. Residential Town - Inhabitants retired/ work elsewhere
Migration & Urbanization Urbanization (Increase of percentage population living in urban area) --> Urban Growth (Expansion of land area &/or increase in population living in urban area) --> Overpopulation (Too many people, too few resources - Disequilibrium/ Mismatch)
Rural-Urban Migration: Multi-dimensional process that involves change in demographics, urbanization, economic development & social change
Migrants Profile: - Lowly educated - Lack/ Have little relevant skills - Poor
Challenges: 1. Migration Laws 2. Anti-foreigner Sentiments 3. Assimilation (Blending of minority groups & communities in dominant society) - Racial/ Religious discrimination & language/ communication barrier
Push Factors: 1. Natural disasters (famine/ drought) --> Poverty 2. Poor rural/ social living conditions -Harsh conditions (poor housing)/ (Poor quality of life - poor educational opportunities) 3. Economic hardship - Overpopulation --> Unemployment/ Informal Jobs (Low pay) --> Income disparity
Pull Factors: [Perception] Employment (More & varied) --> Higher chance of employment --> Higher wages/ income --> Better standard of living --> 1. Urban facilities (Piped water, sanitation, sewage disposal system, electricity, social services: Healthcare & medical facilities) 2. Upgrade housing 3. Afford education
Pull Factors: [Reality] Overpopulation (Too many people, too few resources) -->
1. Traffic congestion --> Roads blocked near gridlock --> Transportation infrastructure over-burdened -> Pollution --> Degradation of environment --> Quality of life suffers
2. Strain on environment & urban facilities --> Ecological stress on quality of life
3. High cost of living --> Few resources drive prices up --> Inflation
4. Competition --> High Unemployment/ Informal Sector --> Lowly paid/ Minimum income/ wages --> Income disparity --> Informal/ Substandard housing (Slums & squatter settlements) --> Violent, dirty, lacks family support & unconducive learning environment --> Trapped in vicious & endless cycle of poverty --> Easy targets for crime
Effects of Migration Area of origin: ` Reduce underemployment ` Lessen pressure on resources & facilities ` Bring back new skills (return of migrants) -> Revitalise Economy ` Send remittances back - Finance services (healthcare) & education --> Revitalise Economy x Younger adults age group migrate --> 1. More likely to be males --> Disproportionate number of females left 2. Older population left --> High death rate 3. Lose people of child bearing age --> Low birth rate 4. Lose skills & entrepreneurial talents --> Slow down economic development x Perceived benefits of host country --> More migrations --> Detrimental to social structure of country x Returning migrants --> Social cost on community
Area of destination: ` Increase in proportion of young adults age group --> High birth rate & Low death rate ` Migrants take up undesirable jobs (Low pay, long hours) --> Contribute to economy - Gain skilled labour at low cost ` Influx of new providers of local services ` Cosmopolitan city (Hybrid cultures) - Variety of traidions, cuisines & religions --> Increase understanding & tolerance of one another x Increase in number of people --> More competition for locals & puts more pressure on resources x Over-reliance/ Over-dependence on migrants x Discrimination (Minority & ethnic groups) --> 1. Racial Tension & social unrest 2. Anti-foreigner sentiments 3. Segregation (Schools & area) x Cost of educating migrant's children x Loss of cultural identity
Facts & Statistics More Economically Developed Countries (MEDC): 1. Osaka-Kobe, Japan (Commercial center of Japan) - As of July 1960, Osaka & Kobe had a population 2.6Million & 1.42Million respectively. Population over 9Million now. 2. NewYork, USA - Largest city in the world in the middle of 20th Century
Less Economically Developed Countries (LEDC): 1. Culcutta, India - Population of 7Million in 1970 --> Population of 12Million in 2000 2. Rio De Janeiro, Brazil - As of 2002, 6Million live in urban areas & 10Million live in metropolitan areas
1. Housing - Osaka-Kobe - High housing density of 100000 living within a square km & 25000 people homeless - Culcutta - Population density of over 150 000 km2 with 3Million people living in bustees
2. Unemployment - NewYork - 1980s, 1.5Million people unemployed (New industries were high tech - required less workers)
3. Transportation (Traffic Congestion) - NewYork - Over 2Million commuters travel to NewYork each day, with 75% of them taking public transport - Culcutta - Old buses are insufficient to carry everyone & many slow rickshaws add to traffic congestion
4. Pollution (Air/ Water/ Visual/ Sound) - Osaka-Kobe - Smoke from heavy industries + Rubbish incinerated & dumped at sea + Oil Spills + Vehicle exhaust --> Smog (Fatal) - NewYork - Severe refuse collection & disposal problem + Run-down houses + Graffiti + Vehicle exhaust --> Smog (fatal)
5. Crime - major problem (Murder/ Drug-related/ Violence) + Ethnic/ Minority groups congregated in their own communities --> Racial tension - Rio De Janeiro - Well-off residents moved out to safer & cleaner environment with their families - NewYork (1980s)
Slum & Squatter Settlements - Dilapidated/ Shanty/ Informal/ Substandard - Extreme poverty - informal jobs/ unemployed --> low/minimum wages - Social & physical deterioration - Slums - Legal - Squatters - Unauthorised
Characteristics: 1. Cramped/ Overcrowded (High housing density) --> High incidence of fire 2. Built with discarded/ poor quality material (Fire hazard) - Planks, wood, cardboard --> High incidence of fire 3. Lie outside of formal planning - Vacant land (marshy land/ steep slopes --> vulnerable/ susceptible to floods/ landslides) 4. Lack basic amenities: -Clean water (Irregular & unreliable, sometimes contaminated --> *Epidemics (Cholera, tuberculosis, measles) --> High infant mortality rate) - Electricity (Use lamps as as source of light) - Drainage & sewage facilities - Cracked sewage pipes --> Effluent runs down narrow lanes --> [Refer to *] - Waste disposal system - Attract pest --> Carry contagious diseases --> [Refer to *] 5. Illegal occupants of state land 6. High social crime rate - Prevalence of illegal activity 7. Strong social network - Survival based on independence
